The seven victims of Friday's shooting in Crete have been released from the hospital, according to a Nebraska State Patrol news release.
On Friday at about 4:35 p.m., officers were called to a residence near Parklane Street and Crestline Drive in Crete in response to a shooting, according to the State Patrol.
Billy Booth, 74, who lived across the street from the victims' house, began shooting a shotgun toward a group of approximately 15 people who were gathered in a yard, officials said.
Booth was later found dead in his home from what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Seven people were shot, including four children between the ages of 3 and 10.
Crete police had previously taken a report that Booth, who is white, made an obscene gesture toward the family and told them to "speak English" and "go home,"聽Crete Police Chief Gary Young Jr. said on Saturday.聽
The investigation is ongoing, but Crete police said previous reports involving Booth led them to believe the shooting may have been racially motivated.聽
The State Patrol is leading the investigation and has not yet determined whether the shooting was a hate crime, according to the news release. Once the investigation is complete, it will be delivered to the Saline County Attorney.
